Why compare?
Both players committed tax fraud. Both players also regularly donate to charity and try to be a good example for young players.
Ronaldo loves his mother dearly and makes sure her every need is taken care of, even keeping her with him rather than giving her a separate house. I think that demonstrates compassion and an admirable commitment to the woman who raised him.
Messi loves his wife dearly, who was his childhood sweetheart. He’s never (to the public’s knowledge) cheated on her or faced allegations of sexual assault, and dutifully raises their children, even sacrificing time with his teammates to spend time with them. I think that demonstrates character and a commitment to his family.
But overall, they’re extremely famous football players who sit in the spotlight. We don’t know their personal lives like we know their professional careers, so why speculate? I could sit here and claim that Ronaldo is a womanizer, or shame Messi for not donating blood and swearing off alcohol, but why?
Appreciate the players for what they are, and feel free to compare their professional accomplishments and abilities, but don’t try to compare their characters. We don’t know who they really are.
